Pauses: How they allow you to regroup

You probably think you do not have time to take a pause. You need to keep going and getting things done. Realize that a pause is not a step back. You maintain a forward movement, you just linger, consider and continue. But why bother.

We are bombarded with information all the time. There are so many choices we face, even good choices, that fill our mind. It seems like every decision is so important but many times we attach more importance to our decisions than necessary.

Pauses give us the opportunity to regroup and take a fresh look with a mind that is not all bogged up in the details. They can give you a different perspective and a clear head. It is different than a break when you step away for a cup of coffee or a snack. When talking about a pause I don’t think of distraction or a diversion. A pause creates space for your brain to catch up to what you are doing and to be able to move forward with purpose.

Take a pause break for your body as well. Pauses are an opportunity to check in with yourself. Get to know what causes tension in your body and your mind. Then, notice ways of relieving these stresses by making simple shifts. Pushing through and making things work takes its toll.  over time. If you take the time to learn about what helps and hurts the better you are in the long run.

The great thing about pauses is that you can use them for your mind, body and breath all in one simple practice like just taking a slow deep breath.

5 reasons to take a pause:

  1. Stretch and adjust your body.
  2. Break up repetitive patterns.
  3. Refresh your mind.
  4. Reframe your thoughts
  5. They are a simple way for you to take care of yourself every day.
